| Zeker negen doden bij reeks aanslagen in Myanmar |

Een reeks explosies heeft in de Birmaanse havenstad Yangon (het voormalige Rangoon) minstens negen doden en 62 gewonden geëist. De aanslagen -minstens drie- vonden plaats in de binnenstad, aan het Kandawgyimeer waar zich honderden mensen hadden verzameld om het boeddhistische nieuwjaarsfeest te vieren.
Yangon was tot voor enkele jaren ook de hoofdstad van het Zuidoost-Aziatische land. Sinds 1962 is Birma onder de nieuwe naam Myanmar een militaire dictatuur. Dit jaar vinden er voor het eerst sedert 1990 verkiezingen plaats. De aanslagen zijn mogelijk het werk van de Karen-minderheid. (dpa/afp/gb/dm) |
